A New Year United: GTA Branches Celebrate “Oplatek” Together

We welcomed the New Year together during the Polish Canadian Women’s Federation’s annual New Year’s gathering (Traditional “Oplatek”), bringing together members from Branches No. 1, 13, 17, 18, and 24 across the Greater Toronto Area.

President Anna Wołochacz expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Iwona Bogorya-Buczkowska, President of Branch No. 1, the Federation’s founding branch, for coordinating this year’s celebration and for her many years of dedication to preserving this cherished tradition.

The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of representatives from each participating branch, including Magdalena Szewczyk, President of Branch No. 13; Anna Groszkowska, Vice President of Branch No. 17; Katarzyna Grandwilewska, President of Branch No. 18; and Anna Zajadlak of Branch No. 24.

During the exchange of New Year’s wishes, one message resonated above all others—that we are all links in one chain, united by a shared mission, common values, and a collective responsibility for the future of our Federation.

The gathering was filled with warmth, friendship, and festive spirit. A beautiful musical performance by Margaret Maye, featuring traditional Christmas carols, added a special touch to the celebration. Joined by 42 participants and accompanied on the piano by Paweł Szewczyk, the group sang together in a joyful expression of unity, fellowship, and hope for the year ahead.

We sincerely thank everyone who joined us and helped make this gathering such a meaningful and inspiring beginning to the New Year.
